Da Olya das Ski-Ressort Metsovo in der Region Epirus nicht zusagte, fahren wir gleich weiter in Richtung Osten: Wir wollen nach Kavala, und an den großen Seen bei Thessaloniki vermuten wir eine Übernachtungsmöglichkeit.
Von Metsovo nach Thessaloniki
Wir verlassen Metsovo in Richtung Tal und stellen fest, dass der See Aoou auf dieser Straße viel leichter erreichbar gewesen wäre, als auf der Straße, die wir gewählt hatten. Große Wohnmobile sollten das beachten.
Bald sind wir wieder die Autobahn und setzen unseren Weg in Richtung Thessaloniki fort. Die Autobahn ist für Wohnmobil-Reisende wirklich empfehlenswert, weil für griechische Verhältnisse günstig. Insgesamt bezahlen wir für die Strecke Igoumenitsa-Thessaloniki etwa 10 Euro. Von Athen nordwärts kosten das schon manche, kurze Teilstrecken.
Wir halten mitten im Nirgendwo für ein schnelles Abendessen im Bus, und fahren dann weiter.
Thessaloniki lassen wir links liegen. Es gibt kaum Verkehr, und ich kann zum wiederholten Male nicht nachvollziehen, was am Verkehr in Thessaloniki so schlimm sein soll. Klar, zur Rush hour wird’s anders zugehen, aber auch das haben wir schon erlebt, und nicht anders als sonst in Griechenland empfunden.
Der Volvi-See
Nach Thessaloniki liegen in Richtung Kavala die zwei größten Seen Griechenlands, und dort wollen wir übernachten. Leider erwischen wir eine stockfinstere Nacht, wir sehen außer unserem Scheinwerferkegel gar nichts.
Das macht die Stellplatzsuche nicht gerade einfach, weshalb wir beträchtlich länger als geplant fahren müssen, und erst um 01:30 auf einem Parkplatz an der Straße landen. Dafür schlafen wir dort erstaunlich gut.
Morgens stellen wir fest, dass wir direkt an einer Wasserstelle genächtigt haben, komplett ausgestattet mit Gardena-Anschluss. Das nutzen wir sofort aus, rollen unseren Gardena-Schlauch aus und füllen unseren Wassertank bequem bis oben hin.
Der perfekte Platz am Volvi-See
Nur zwei Kilometer weiter finden wir den perfekten Stellplatz, direkt am See und in einiger Entfernung von der Hauptstraße. Leider wäre die Einfahrt nachts unmöglich zu finden gewesen.
Aber so nutzen wir den Platz nun, um ein paar Pelikane und Reiher in der Morgenstimmung zu fotografieren. Für wirklich gute Fotos hätten wir mehr Geduld aufbringen müssen, denn die Vögel sind recht weit entfernt.
Nea Iraklitsa
Seit wir am See Aoou ohne Handy-Empfang waren, streiken unsere Handys. Zuerst schoeben wir es noch aufs Bergland und wahrscheinlich schlechten Empfang, nachdem wir aber in Thessaloniki noch immer kein Netz haben wissen wir: Da stimmt etwas nicht. Was, lässt sich schwer ergründen, immerhin können wir niemanden anrufen und im Netz nichts nachschlagen. Rebooten der Telefone und ähnliche Tricks helfen nicht. Also machen wir vor dem Fährhafen noch in Nea Iraklitsa Station. Dort herrscht uns zwar eigentlich zuviel Trubel (und am Strand reiht sich ein Wohnmobil an das nächste), aber es gibt viele Cafés mit Wlan.
Über wlan kontaktieren wir den Netzbetreiber. Leider hilft auch das nicht, am Wochenende gibt’s keine Unterstützung, und ich verbringe die nächsten Tage ohne Empfang. Immerhin bei Olya hilft ein zigfaches entnehmen der Simkarte und rebooten irgendwann. (Später wird sich heruasstellen, dass das ganze ein Fehler des Netzbetreibers war, und ich mein Telefon unnötigerweise resettet habe).
Fähre in Kavala: Leider ausgebucht
Das ist noch nie passiert! Bislang sind wir immer ohne Reservierung von Kavala aus gestartet, und noch nie gab es damit ein Problem. Was wir aber nicht bedenken: Die heutige Abfahrt wird durch ein viel kleineres Schiff durchgeführt. Tickets können wir erst für die Abfahrt in drei Tagen kaufen, was uns unsere Pläne etwas durcheinanderwirft. Ein Camper-Kollege berichtet uns davon, dass es eine Warteliste gäbe (diese Information hat uns der Kollege am Schalter von Hellenic Seaways vorbehalten), auf welche wir uns sogleich setzen lassen.
Nun harren wir zwei Stunden im Hafen aus, trinken Frappé und lesen im Camper. Bis 15 Minuten nach der offiziellen Abfahrt wissen wir nicht, ob wir mit dürfen, doch die Geduld macht sich schlussendlich bezahlt: Wir fahren als vorletzter Camper aufs Schiff.
Weiter nach Limnos
Wieder geht es wiedermal weiter nach Limnos, wo wir nicht nur griechische Freunde besuchen, sondern natürlich auch Windsurfen, und diese absolut ursprüngliche Insel genießen. Mehr dazu demnächst.
